1. 인질 (다큐시리즈) 교도소 폭동 - 미국

2. 인질 코카콜라 부호 납치 사건 - 브라질

 The act of crime, it has two sides. 범죄 행위는 두 측면으로 갈립니다
It has the victim's side and the criminal's side. 피해자 측과 범죄자 측
The majority of people know that if you pursue a life of crime, 그리고 보통 생각하기에 범죄의 끝은
your life will be interrupted by either prison... 교도소에 가거나 사형을 당하거나
or death. 둘 중 하나입니다
It was a game. 게임 같은 거죠
And I was prepared to play that game. 전 그 게임판에 뛰어들기로 했습니다
In my case, I believed... 제가 한다면
that something would be different... 뭔가 다를 것 같았거든요
something good would happen. 잘할 자신이 있었죠

Social war. 사회 속의 전쟁이요
Between the "haves" and the "have-nots," those who can and those who can't. 가진 자와 못 가진 자 있는 자와 없는 자의 전쟁이죠
The difference in classes, not only in Rio de Janeiro, 리우데자네이루뿐 아니라 브라질 전체에서
but in Brazil... 두 계급의 격차는
is very large. 매우 큽니다
It is unequal and inhuman. 불평등하고 비인간적이죠.

3. 인질 해상 납치- 소말리아

 I realized that it was something horrible. 끔찍한 일이 벌어질 걸 직감했어요
 I've never had guns pointed at me before. 누가 저한테 총을 겨눈 건 그때가 처음이었어요
Desperately trying to think through, "What can I do?" 어떻게 해야 할지 필사적으로 생각했죠
 It was half past 6:00 in the morning. 아침 6시 반쯤이었죠
I assumed when a call came at that time of day 그 시간에 전화가 오다니
that it was bad news. 나쁜 소식이구나 했어요
I jumped out of bed and grabbed the phone. “스티븐 콜레트 레이철의 형제” 벌떡 일어나 전화를 받았는데
I was very surprised to find my younger sister on the end. 여동생이라 깜짝 놀랐죠
She told me that the beacon had gone off on the boat. 요트의 표식등이 꺼졌다고 하더군요
Of course, my instant reaction was that the boat had been hit by a ship. 순간 다른 배랑 충돌했나 싶으면서
And there was little hope, in the middle of the ocean, 바다 한복판에서 그들을 찾을 희망은
of finding anybody. 거의 없다고 생각했죠
 The kidnap and ransom market in London is probably the biggest in the world. 납치 및 몸값 거래 규모는 런던이 세계 최대일 겁니다

 

4. 인질 미국인 선교사 - 필리핀

We don't get calls at 3:30. 평소엔 전화 올 일이 없는 시간이죠.
I ran down the hall, and before I got to the phone, 복도를 지나 서둘러 전화 쪽으로 가는데
I could hear the machine kick on and I could hear my dad's voice,
응답기가 켜지고 아버지 목소리가 들렸어요.
and I knew that that meant it was something bad. 안 좋은 일이 생겼구나 직감했죠.
I got the phone, and he told me that Martin and Gracia had been kidnapped.
전화를 받았더니 마틴과 그레이샤가 납치됐다는 거예요.
I went into a tunnel. 긴 터널에 들어서는 순간이었죠.
You know, your life just kind of collapses right around you.
평온했던 삶이 순식간에 무너지는 기분이었어요
Dos Palmas, one of the Philippines' most exclusive resorts,

stronghold for the group's war of independence. 바실란 남부 지역 한 섬으로 인질들과 이동한 상태입니다.
 They had been missionaries in the Philippines for 16 years.
두 사람은 필리핀에서 16년째 선교사로 일하고 있었죠.
Martin flew a plane. 마틴은 경비행기를 조종해
He would deliver food and goods that the missionaries there needed,
선교사들에게 필요한 식품과 생필품을 조달했어요.
and Gracia worked the radio. 그레이샤는 무선통신을 맡았고요.
They had a really nice, peaceful life there. 그곳에서 행복하고 평화롭게 살고 있었죠.
I started searching for anything about this group of people who had taken them,
납치범이 어떤 집단인지 전엔 인질을 어떻게 했는지
what they had done with people before... 검색해봤어요.
And every single article I read, 모든 기사가 같은 내용이었죠.

5. 인질 영국인 구호 활동가 - 체첸

Where I'm standing, at least two people have been killed,
제가 서 있는 이곳에서 적어도 두 명이 숨졌습니다.
innocent bystanders, 무고한 시민들이죠.
and many more people have been wounded. 또 많은 부상자가 발생했습니다.
The bombing of Grozny was, you know, absolutely staggering. 그로즈니 폭격에 정말 충격받았어요.
[Robert Parsons]. The people were totally demoralized. 사람들은 넋이 나간 얼굴이었어요.
They had nowhere to live. 살 곳도 잃고
There was no food. The economy was smashed. 먹을 것도 없고 경제는 풍비박산이 났죠.
There was no way of making a living except through criminality.
범죄가 아니면 생계를 잇기 막막했어요.
I really have never felt so scared in my life 살면서 제일 무서웠던 때가
as when I went down there. 거기 있을 때였어요.
And very few foreigners were going to Chechnya at that time
당시 체첸에 가는 외국인들은 거의 없었어요.
because it had already established itself as being the kidnap capital of the world.
이미 납치로 악명 높은 곳이 됐거든요.
[man speaking Russian] The kidnappings became a problem 1996년 첫 전쟁이 끝날 때쯤
by the end of the first war 1996. 납치가 기승을 부렸어요.
Before that event, there was not a single foreigner kidnapped in Chechnya.
그전엔 체첸에서 외국인 납치는 없었거든요.
After that period, this business became an industry, 그때부터 납치도 하나의 사업이 돼서
and there were gangs whose sole focus was kidnapping. 납치만을 전문으로 하는 조직이 생겨났어요.

6.인질 베들레헴 포위 공격 - 팔레스타인

 In Bethlehem, a standoff around the Church of the Nativity 베들레헴 예수탄생교회 교착 상태가
has been continuing all day. 종일 계속되고 있습니다
Palestinian gunmen are among some 200 people believed 팔레스타인계 무장 괴한들이 약 200명의 인질과 함께
to be taking refuge inside the world-famous church. 세계적으로 유명한 이 교회를 점거 중입니다
Israeli soldiers outside... 이스라엘군은 바깥에서...
We knew that the toughest terrorists in Bethlehem... 베들레헴에서 가장 악명높은 테러리스트들이
are now in a so-called jail. 포위가 되어 갇힌 신세가 된 겁니다
 It's not a house with three hostages in the center of Tel Aviv 인질 3명이 잡혀 있어 부수고 들어갈 수 있는
that you can destroy or break into it. 그런 민가가 아닙니다
But... 하지만...
it's just a matter of time. 시간문제예요
 I would prefer to die than to surrender. 항복하느니 죽겠어요
We will die inside, but we will never surrender. 이 안에서 죽겠습니다 절대 항복하지 않아요
I knew that my wife had taken the kids to Jerusalem. 아내와 아이들은 예루살렘에 있었습니다
And there was a bloody attack in the city. 도시가 처참히 공격당했어요
The entire phone system collapsed. 통신 체계가 불통이 됐죠
I tried to call my wife and children, and I couldn't make contact. 가족에게 연락하려 했지만 소용없었습니다
That can drive a man crazy. 미칠 노릇이었죠
You don't know what to think, what you'll find out. 머릿속은 뒤죽박죽에 무슨 일이 일어날지도 모르고
Whether any of your family members were killed. 가족의 생사도 불분명했죠.

7.인질 알카에다 인질 - 예멘

He had a peacefulness exuding from him, which just really attracted me. 그이가 주는 평온한 분위기에 완전히 반했었죠
There was a beautiful person on the inside, 내면이 아주 아름다운 사람이었고
which I just really, really fell in love with. 그런 면을 깊이 사랑했어요
Pierre had a passion for serving poor people, 피에르는 어려운 사람들 돕는 걸 좋아했는데
and there was an invitation to go and visit a poor Middle Eastern country. 마침 중동의 한 빈곤한 나라를 방문해달란 초청을 받게 됐죠
And we wanted to see what it was like to explore new things in life. 우리는 새로운 경험을 하며 다른 삶을 살아보기로 했어요
It was a new adventure. 모험을 시작했죠

We read up a little bit about Yemen, 예멘에 대해 읽긴 했지만
but we didn't really understand the culture. 그곳 문화는 잘 몰랐어요
We didn't really understand how poor Yemen was. 예멘은 생각보다 훨씬 가난한 나라였죠
The poverty really touched our hearts. 그 빈곤을 보고 연민이 생겼어요
Pierre was going to teach full-time. 피에르는 풀타임으로 수업을 하게 됐고
We helped a little bit at the hospitals. 병원에서도 잠깐씩 봉사했죠
We kept on just reaching out to the poor, 우리를 원하는 곳에서 필요로 하는 것들을 주며
wherever they needed and what they needed. 어려운 이들을 찾아다녔어요
We started just opening up our home 집으로 부르기도 했죠
and inviting people and eating meals with them, 사람들을 초대해서 식사를 대접하고
and dipping that hand into the same bowl and... 같은 접시의 음식을 그들처럼 손으로 먹으며
sharing life. 삶을 함께했어요
It was safe. It was welcoming. 안전하고 우호적인 곳이었죠
 Something enormously important is happening 이 시간 지구 반대편에선 거대하고도 급박한 사건이
half a world away from us tonight. 일어나고 있습니다

8.인질 피스메이커 - 이라크

He was taken out to a site. 놈들은 계획된 장소로 그를 데려갔어요
He was told to kneel down. 무릎을 꿇으라고 했죠
People went behind him. 그의 뒤편으로 가서
He was told to run. 도망치라고 해 놓고
And then, he was shot several times with a Kalashnikov. AK-47로 여러 차례 쏜 겁니다
And it wasn't done on camera. 촬영을 위해서도 아니고
It wasn't done for propaganda reasons. 정치 선전 때문도 아니었어요
It was pure malevolence. 순전한 악의였죠
Pure violence. 폭력 그 자체요
 Yeah... 그래요
I often-- I don't anymore. I used to think about that moment. 요즘은 아니지만 전엔 종종 그 순간을 떠올렸죠
I used to think about... 스스로 되물었어요
"Could we? Should we? What if we had... ‘이러면 어땠을까? 저렇게 할 걸 그랬나?’
you know... did everything we could to get out of that? ‘만약 거기서 나오기 위해 최선을 다해 싸웠다면’
To fight." ‘어떻게 됐을까?’
These are the only things I have, in a way, 그 일과 관련된 물건은 이게 다예요
that are the physical witness to that time period. 나름 그 시기의 증인인 셈이죠
This box here includes the clothing 여기 이 상자에 그때 입었던
that I wore in... 옷이 들어 있어요
those 118 days. 118일간 입고 있었죠

Like, you could see the war clouds coming across the horizon. 수평선 너머 전쟁의 먹구름이 몰려오는 게 보였어요
 Major combat operations have ended. 대규모 전투 작전은 이제 끝났습니다
In the battle of Iraq, 이라크전에서
the United States and our allies have prevailed. 미국과 동맹국이 승리한 것입니다
I was involved with the invasion of Iraq. 저도 이라크전에 참전했었죠
I was actually in Iraq days after Baghdad fell. 바그다드가 함락되고 며칠 후 이라크에 있었어요
For the most part, Iraq was welcoming. 이라크인 대부분은
And, in fact, it was-- We were greeted as liberators. 우리를 해방군으로 환영하는 분위기였죠.

9.인질 다큐시리즈와 연상되는 최근 뉴스 / 사우디 빈 살만 왕세자 _ 팔레스타인 편

이스라엘과 팔레스타인 무장단체 하마스의 충돌이 전면전 양상으로 치닫고 있는데 사우디아라비아의 무하마드 빈 살만 왕세자가 팔레스타인 국민 편에 서겠다고 밝혔다고 외신이 보도했다.

 

9.인질 다큐시리즈를 본 소감 

인질을 역류하고 돈으로 흥정하는 악의적인 단체들은 사라져야 할 것이다.

이 다큐시리즈는 그동안 실제 있었던 실화를 다큐시리즈로 방영했다. 인질들의 목숨을 담보로 돈을 요구하는 이런 무장 단체들은 지구상에서 영원히 근절되어야 한다고 느꼈다.
